U.S. Navy Defense Transportation System (DTS) Program Management Office (PMO) Success Story
The coordinated management of multiple, interdependent projects within a program are necessary to achieve strategic goals. Immersion Consulting Group Consultants have provided program management support to the OPNAV N41 Program Manager to achieve 100% implementation of the Defense Travel System (DTS) within the Department of the Navy. This support has consisted of advisory and support services to the Program Manager as well as Major Commands and field activities involved in the fielding, implementation, and utilization of DTS throughout Department of the Navy. In this capacity we have collected and analyzed data from DTS regarding system utilization and implementation, and used it to advise the Program Manager on the most effective ways to achieve full implementation of DTS for TDY travel throughout the Department of the Navy. The multi-year effort has resulted in a 95% implementation of DTS within DON. In an effort to get to 100% utilization Immersion consultants are playing key roles in designing the processes and procedures to enable DTS to be effectively used to support unique travel requirements for shore based functions such as Congressional Travel for the Office of Legislative Affairs, Promotion Board Travel, Bedside Assistance Travel, and Mortuary Affairs Travel for the Bureau of Naval Personnel, and Casualty Affairs Calls Officer Travel for Commander, Naval Installations Command.
Immersion has developed procedures to implement DTS on all shipboard platforms and has designed processes that will allow DTS to work effectively with infrequent travelers and minimize impact on low band width capabilities of surface ships.
